Guided tour Os Eidos: a historical cemetery

This historical graveyard of the XIX century, has been elected as the most beautiful cemetery of Spain in 2022.Starting from the main entrance, we will enter a part of a lesser known history of Redondela. In about an hour and a half, approximately, we will walk around this space that keeps burials carried out between 1860 and 1988, when it stopped been in use. This place originally built as a garden, holds the written testimony carved in stone of how bourgeois society of the era approached death: as an extension of the way they lived an felt, their philosophy of life, and their understanding of what lies beyond. Relevant historical figures, such as John O'Dogherty, heroe of the battle of Pontesampaio, General Antero Rubín or doctor Alejandro Otero among other well-known members of the Redondelan society, watch us as we walk by their tombs, turned into silent witnesses of the changes that almost erased forever the walls sheltering the eternal rest of those who still lie here.
