San Antón Market

Situated in the popular neighbourhood of Chueca, in Madrid, this modern refurbished market offers visitors high quality seasonal products in a three-storey building: a traditional market, show cooking/take-away food businesses, and a restaurant-terrace. It is a popular place for shopping, having a snack, going for tapas, tasting gourmet products, etc.

Although it originally dates back to the 19th century, it was actually refurbished and modernised in 2002, and opened completely in May 2011. On the ground floor, visitors will find carefully designed stands where they can purchase high quality food, from hamburgers to a selection of more than 60 types of bread, fruit and vegetables. On the first floor there is a tasting area, where you can also purchase Spanish and international specialities to take away, such as seafood, cakes, milkshakes, etc. This area also has a wine cellar and a hall for temporary exhibitions and events. Lastly, on the second floor there is a restaurant (where typical products from the market are cooked) and it has a 400 m2 terrace-lounge commanding a spectacular view of the neighbourhood. The Market of San Antón also represents a sustainable building that aims to make use of energy by means of the characteristics of its construction.
