Asturias has always been famous within Spain for hearty, abundant and delicious food. Now the rest of the world knows, thanks to its Michelin-starred haute cuisine restaurants.

Like an Asturian farmhouse

Casa Marcial is the most awarded restaurant in Asturias. It is in a valley surrounded by mountains, and not many houses, where silence forms part of nature. The exterior already hints at the type of culinary experience you can expect. Peace and quiet, and a lot of flavour, with the typical products of Asturias as the foundation for reinterpreting the local dishes. It is located in Arriondas and has three Michelin stars.The following restaurants have one Michelin star each:El Corral de Indianu, also in Arriondas. Known for its creativity with “works” like crab-flavoured beans, or reinvented classics like the deconstructed “pote”.Casa Gerardo, in Prendes. Its kitchens have been working since 1882, and in 2016 it received the Louis Roederer – Verema prize for the restaurant with the best treatment of wine in Spain. With star dishes like fabada and rice pudding, its more than 100 years of history are no impediment to modern cuisine without sacrificing Asturian products.

Auga, on the Gijón Marina. This place has the added appeal of sea views.Marcos, also in Gijón but in the centre, is one of the latest to join the club of starred Asturian restaurants. Sommelier Marcos Granda has opened a very exclusive venue for just 12 diners, featuring a luxury wine cellar.NM, chef Nacho Manzano's venture in Oviedo, is another newcomer to the select list. It is a small restaurant with tasting menus that change with the seasons.Real Balneario, in Castrillón. It offers an enviable experience of elegant Asturian cuisine and beautiful views of Las Salinas beach.El Retiro, in Llanes. Creates traditional Asturian dishes with signature touches.Ayalga, in Ribadesella. Ayalga means “hidden treasure” and offers a gastronomic experience based on Cantabrian haute cuisine, on the shores of Santa Marina beach.Monte, in San Feliz, in the municipality of Lena. Culture, the surrounding area and tradition are a source of inspiration for the work of its chef. It features several tasting menu options and an extensive wine cellar.Ferpel Gastronómico, in Ortiguera. It has an open kitchen, and its commitment is sustainability and support for local producers.
