Via the Mirador Las Barandas and the Laguna de Barlovento we reach our next accommodation.Distance: 9 kmAltitude difference: + 620 m/ - 522 m2. The Northern CoastSteep cliffs and deep gorges form the northern coast. We walk westwards along the Camino Real, which was already used by indigenous people to the village of Franceses.Distance: 10 kmHeight difference: + 643 m/ - 871 m3. The Pirates' CaveOur hike takes us on a steep descent from the village of Tijarafe down to the sea. Here we find the "Pirates' Cave", where white houses contrast with dark rock and deep blue sea. In serpentines we follow the path uphill to El Jesus.Distance: 12 kmHeight difference: + 980 m/ - 980 m4. Caldera de TaburienteThe Caldera de Taburiente forms the central of the island. In former times it was inhabited by the Guanches. We follow the path steadily downhill to Taburiente river with amazing views of the steep walls that form the Caldera. Down in the riverbed we come by the colour waterfall and the so-called pillow lava.Distance: 16 kmHeight difference: + 120 m/ - 720 m5. The Volcanoes RouteThe southern, young part of the island is still volcanically active. Through the crater landscape, partly overgrown with pine trees, the route leads to the southernmost municipality of Fuencaliente.Distance: 17 kmAltitude difference: + 620 m/ - 1200 m6. Above the cloudsWe climb the top, first by taxi to Pico de la Cruz at 2351 m. From there we hike along the ridge of the Caldera, with magnificent views on all sides.
