You can choose anything from cities such as Madrid or Seville to medieval old towns, rivers, mountains, valleys and postcard-perfect forests. Spain is one of the countries with the most monuments declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, thanks to its spectacular corners of exceptional geographical landscapes and an immense cultural legacy enriched by the passage of different civilisations. When it comes to planning your trip, there will be no shortage of fantastic accommodation options either, as in addition to hotels for every taste, Spain has a unique network of paradors located in places of tourist interest. And there is no shortage of historic spas and hot springs where you can recover from the stress accumulated during wedding preparations.

Another of the country's strong points is its varied and healthy gastronomy, based on a firm commitment to local produce: High-quality meats, fish, vegetables and legumes to delight every palate. One unique experience is to sample the way haute cuisine blends Spanish tradition and avant-garde at one of the more than 290 Michelin-starred restaurants.

The Pyrenees: challenge and relaxation from summit to summit

For couples who love the mountains, there is a region that is appealing at any time of the year: the Pyrenees which, in the north-east of Spain, act as a natural border with the rest of Europe and span the regions of Navarre, Aragon and Catalonia.Benasque is the town with the highest number of mountains over 3,000 metres. Climbing the highest peak in the Pyrenees and third highest in the country, Aneto, at 3,404 metres high, can be a great challenge. This adventure takes one or two days to complete, depending on your preference and physical fitness, with the supervision of a local mountain guide who will guarantee safety and the appropriate equipment.

In addition to the National Parks of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, in Lleida, and Ordesa y Monte Perdido, in Huesca, some of the best ski resorts in Spain are located in this region, such as Baqueira-Beret, Cerler and Formigal. The fairytale landscapes of the Aran Valley region in villages such as Vielha, the medieval charm of historic sites such as Aínsa or immersing yourself in the waters of one of the oldest spas in Europe, such as Panticosa, in the Tena Valley, are ideal options to relax and unwind.

The romantic atmosphere of the Ribeira Sacra and Las Médulas in Leon

In Galicia, a river journey awaits you, as spectacular as it is romantic. Between the provinces of Lugo and Ourense is the Ribeira Sacra, which is a biosphere reserve, together with the Serras do Oribio and Courel. As well as navigating it by boat on the Miño and Sil rivers and admiring its impressive waterfalls from one of the many incredible viewpoints, you will be fascinated by the concentration of Romanesque monasteries in the area. There is no better way to toast to love than in one of the unique wineries on the slopes of the Ribeira Sacra, where you can savour some of its wines with designation of origin.

Another inspiring enclave is the neighbouring region of El Bierzo in Castile and Leon, presided over by the imposing reddish, craggy silhouette of the mountains that make up Las Médulas. Did you know that the Romans set up a gold mine there, and that was the origin of this peculiar World Heritage site? The visitor reception centre offers guided tours to learn in depth about the history of this ancient site.

Dance of cultures in Toledo

Toledo, the capital of Castile la Mancha, is a magnificent place to discover the enormous artistic heritage that the coexistence of Christians, Muslims and Jews left behind in Spain. A city set on a walled hill, with bridges that are a must-see at sunset. You'll find shops selling artisan products interspersed with more modern establishments and colourful gastrobars that invite you to enjoy Spanish cuisine. One last recommendation is to culminate the trip with a special sport, musical, art or theatre event. It is very likely that the vast calendar of cultural events and festivals will have different dates that fit into your honeymoon in Spain.
