Monastery of Las Huelgas Reales

Valladolid

A classic temple

Temple in classic style (17th century). It is now home to important works of art: Gregorio Fernández, Juan de Juni, etc.

Almost the entire current collection dates back to the 17th century. The church has a single nave, a barrel vault and a lowered dome over the transept. The high altar is the work of Francisco Velázquez and features sculptures and reliefs by Gregorio Fernández. It has several side chapels with ironwork by Juan del Barco. It was founded by the queen María de Molina, and some parts of her palace remain (the door to the monument is the only trace of Mudejar architecture in the city). Now a convent of enclosed nuns of the San Quirce Cistercian order.
