Iberian ham

Monesterio Ham Day

Festivity of Tourist Interest

Monesterio

Badajoz

The town of Monesterio (Badajoz), renowned for its excellent Iberian ham, organises this gastronomic event in September to celebrate one of its most iconic culinary specialities.

This settlement is a key stop on the ‘Dehesa de Extremadura’ Iberian Ham Route, halfway between the region’s distinctive landscape and the Sierra de Tentudía. Its geographical location makes it ideal for the natural curing of hams. A labour-intensive process explained in detail at the town’s Ham Museum.   The festival, which attracts thousands of visitors from all over Spain, begins at around 11 am at the fairground. From this time onwards, visitors can access various tasting stands to sample portions of cured meats such as ham, pork loin and Iberian ham… Throughout the day, there are various recreational activities, and the celebration also features a Ham-Carving Contest and technical seminars focused on this food product. #alimentosdespaña.
