Santa Pau

Medieval art in the Garrotxa Volcanic Area

Santa Pau is outstanding on account of its medieval monuments. The "Vila Vella" (Old Town), Plaça de la Arqueria Square, the castle and Santa María Church can be seen in this unique village, packed with charm and magic. Conservation efforts mean that 81% of the municipal territory is protected, belonging to the Garrotxa Volcanic Area Nature Reserve.

The village offers a range of activities, mostly centring on adventure sports (quad biking, 4x4 routes, hot air balloon flights...); hiking (there are many signed itineraries on which to explore the mountains); horse riding routes... Special mention should be made of the local gastronomy. The most famous local produce are Santa Pau "fesols". They are a kind of bean, and are very popular. Every year there is a gastronomic fair centring on this autochthonous species of bean. Cured meats, honey, "farinetes de fajol" (typical dessert) and La Fageda yoghurt are other local delicacies.
