Fortified Irta: The Xivert Templar Castle

The Xivert castle (Alcalà de Xivert, Castellón) is one of the most important examples of hisn (Muslim fortress) of the Andalusian Caliphal period due to, among other things, its impressive oriental rammed earth. The Templar towers which are its most typical postcard are equally imposing and on one side of the towers we can access the old Muslim village of Xivert. Imagining the daily life that took place here not so many centuries ago –it was abandoned by the Moriscos in 1609– will make your hair stand on end. You will discover all these secrets and much more natural and cultural curiosities accompanied by an awesome local products lunch.Meeting point: Hermitage of El Calvario (Alcalà de Xivert) Aprox. duration: 5 hDifficulty: Moderate-low Recomm. age: Children from 8 Distance: 9 Km
