Geo-route - San Juan de la Peña
San Juan de la Peña: conglomerates with a long history. The Protected Landscape of San Juan de la Peña and Monte Oroel is an amazing space where nature, history and art merge perfectly. Along this excursion, we will find trees listed as unique because of their longevity and view diverse environments, which makethis spot a strategic place for the wildlife. And, of course, we will take a good look to the conglomerates, the rocks in charge of protecting and sheltering the old Monastery of San Juan de la Peña, which story will they tell us?While walking in the upper part of the rock, we will get to know the history of a time long before the old monastery was built, the history taught by the rocks we walk on, which will bring us to when the Pyrenees were forming. Estimated duration: 3-4 hours. The duration is an estimate and only half of it would be of physically active; the rest would be used for explanations at the different stops along the route. Specifications: The starting point of the San Juan de la Peña geo-route is located at the parking lot ofthe newMonastery of San Juan de la Peña. This whole geo-route is on foot.The finishing point is the same as the starting point, and it is accessible by car. Transportation to the starting point is not included as part of the activity. This activity is suitable for children over 8 years old and the pace of the excursion will be adjusted to them. Younger children may follow the activity if parents or guardian believe it is suitable for them. Necessary equipment for a proper performance of the activities suggested by Geopirene always includes water, appropriate clothes in keeping with the weather, sport or mountain shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.
