From the Middle Ages to the 21st century
The Museum is located in three buildings in the old quarter of Oviedo: the 18th-century Velarde Palace, which is connected to a 1940 building; and the 17th-century Casa de Oviedo-Portal. A project to add a fourth building is underway.
With more than 15,000 pieces, this museum is the largest public art collection in Asturias, featuring painting, sculpture, drawing, engraving, photography and applied and industrial arts. The collections range from the Middle Ages to the 21st century, highlighting the collection of Spanish painting and significant examples from European schools, especially the Italian and Flemish schools. The museum has a specialised library, enriched with the acquisition in 1995 of the private library of the art historian Diego Angulo.
