Former residence of kings
This Royal Palace of Madrid is located on Monte de El Pardo, with almost 16,000 hectares of forest, north of the capital city.
It was built in the 16th century, during the reign of Philip II, on the structure of a small castle that Charles I had built in the 15th century. That is why the structure of this medieval castle, with towers at the corners and surrounded by a moat, was inherited by the Palace of El Pardo. In addition to its architectural beauty, the monument stands out for its interior decoration. Worthy of special note are the tapestries made according to compositions by artists such as Bayeu and Goya. It also preserves furniture and artwork from the 18th and 19th centuries. Since 1983, it has been used as a residence for foreign heads of state during their official visits to Spain.
