Exhibition
Madrid

The National Archaeological Museum hosts an exhibition showing the evolution of this well-known lifestyle (declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO in 2013), from its prehistoric origins to present day.

The Mediterranean Diet represents a set of customs and knowledge about agricultural crops and harvests; fishing and animal husbandry; or the way to preserve, transform, cook and consume food. The exhibition is structured around six areas, from appetiser to dessert; and includes archaeological, artistic and ethnographic objects, as well as graphic and audiovisual resources. All to analyse the meaning of the act of eating together as the foundation of the cultural identity of Mediterranean communities and an essential axis in the cohesion of festivities and traditions. Indeed, Convivium was a word used by Cicero to talk about a gathering of friends around the table.
