In the heart of the mountains of León, between the towns of La Pola de Gordón and La Robla, you can admire a landscape of great biodiversity, characterised by mountains covered with beech and oak forests, deep valleys, rivers and lakes. To explore this area on two wheels there are initiatives such as Zona Alfa, with its extensive network of paths and itineraries.- Kilometres: more than 120, distributed over 16 routes of varying lengths.- Difficulty: there are more accessible routes, perfect for beginners, and others that require great endurance and skill.-What you'll find: mountain scenery, with flow trails (trails designed to maintain speed and pace) and singletrack trails (narrow, where only one bike can fit), as well as traditional paths. The cycling experience can be completed with the area’s rich cultural and ethnographic heritage, such as the Corta Pastora open-cast coal mine in Santa Lucía de Gordón, which was active until the end of the 20th century. For a first contact, you could start with the shortest route, Asno Exprés, which is just over a kilometre long, although it has a significant elevation gain. It starts in the vicinity of Peña del Asno and continues towards Puente de Alba.If you are looking for a bigger challenge, the Reino de León route is the longest, with more than 30 kilometres: a circular cross-country style route (a discipline focused on speed over mixed terrain). Setting off from La Robla, you will pass through all the sectors of Zona Alfa through forest tracks, short asphalted stretches and several paths.
