Roman and paleo-Christian necropolis

Tarragona

An important archaeological discovery

Between 1923 and 1933, archaeological excavations uncovered the site of an important paleo-Christian cemetery. This necropolis was used from the time of the Roman rule until the 7th century. Different types of graves have been found, both pagan and Christian, such as sarcophagi, amphora tombs and others. Most of these finds can be seen in the Archaeological Museum of Tarragona. The necropolis is part of the monumental ensemble of Tarraco, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
