The Sant Pau Modernist site in Barcelona, Catalonia

Sant Pau Modernist site

Barcelona

The old Sant Pau hospital was designed and built by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner as a garden city so that patients could walk peacefully around its large square. It was opened in 1930 and awarded the World Heritage designation by UNESCO in 1997. It is considered the largest Modernist site in the world. The hospital moved to a new location in 2009, leaving the site as a space for tourism and leisure activities, with some of its buildings now being used by organisations and as exhibition spaces.
