This institution preserves and promotes audiovisual and cinematographic heritage. Its screening room is located in one of the oldest, most unique and best-loved cinemas in Madrid.
This is the Cine Doré, which opened in 1912. Recognisable for its historic Art Nouveau façade, for decades it was ‘the neighbourhood cinema’. The building was refurbished in the late 1980s to give it a new lease of life screening masterpieces of cinema from all corners of the globe. The films can be viewed as part of retrospectives and themed programmes. There are also occasional screenings of national and international films that have been rescued from oblivion. As well as public screenings, the Film Archive runs a programme of talks on the film industry and has a specialist bookshop.
