Basilica of Santa María (Alicante)

The oldest church in the city of Alicante. It was built on an old mosque. It was built in the 13th century, in the Gothic style. After a fire the 15th century, it had to be rebuilt. The façade is baroque. Particular notice should be given to the entrance door with a sculpture of the Virgin by Juan Bautista Borja. Inside, look for the main rococo altar and the Baptism, Immaculate Conception and Communion chapels. The Chapter House features a huge baptismal font made of Carrara marble.
