Façade of Cuenca Cathedral

Nuestra Señora de Gracia Cathedral

Cuenca

Norman influence in Cuenca

The Cathedral is in Gothic style with clear French influence.

The exterior has lost its Gothic character through innovations carried out during the Renaissance. It has a Latin cross floor plan and a polygonal apse with seven sides. The triforium remains from the original Norman structure. It is unique in Spain and, furthermore, the decoration serves to counteract the thrust of the vaulted roof. The main façade has three access doors. The main altar is by Ventura Rodríguez and it also has some magnificent iron grilles from the 15th century. The doors of the chapter rooms are by Berruguete. There is a Byzantine reliquary on display in the Museum.
