Casa Milà "La Pedrera"

Barcelona

TOP Gaudí. A masterpiece of natural forms

Casa Milà, a block of flats also known as "La Pedrera" (the Quarry), is Antoni Gaudí's most iconic secular building, both for its innovative construction and functionality, and for its aesthetic. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and also the architect’s final residential building. La Pedrera includes the only visitor centre on Gaudí in Barcelona and is an essential introduction to the architect’s work and inspiration. You can visit a total of 4,500 square metres over five floors, with several types of tour available depending on the time slot.

It was built from 1906 to 1912, with load-bearing external stone walls, while inside there are painted courtyards, columns and various types of room. The wave-like façade is pierced by large windows with wrought-iron balconies. On the roof, the sculptural chimneys are works of art in themselves, and there is a splendid view over all of Barcelona.
