La Casa Encendida

Madrid

This Cultural Centre, run by the Montemadrid Foundation, hosts contemporary art exhibitions in a variety of formats. With an open and inclusive spirit, it is also a place to share knowledge and a pleasant urban meeting place.

La Casa Encendida is housed in a historic Neo-Mudéjar building, opened in 1913, which was formerly the headquarters of a bank. With a concept that goes beyond traditional exhibition halls, its programme brings together culture, the environment and education through a wide variety of activities suitable for all ages. Alongside avant-garde art exhibitions, it also hosts concerts and performing arts shows, film series, round-table discussions on civic issues, courses and workshops. It also has a library and a rooftop terrace featuring one of the first organic urban vegetable gardens in Madrid.
