The town’s finest monuments include the Ducal Palace, which also dates back to the 16th century, and the 11th-century Moorish walls. You can also enjoy an interesting walk along the riverbank: Béjar has a proud textile tradition. This peaceful trail features a series of information panels detailing a fascinating chapter in the town’s history. The bullring, believed to be the oldest in Spain, is also well worth a visit. If you prefer the great outdoors, the mountains of the Sierra de Francia lie 30 kilometres away; the villages in the area boast some unusual buildings and the views offered by 1,700-metre-high Peña de Francia are not to be missed. Springtime visitors can enjoy the feast-day of Corpus Christi and the unusual Procession of the Moss Men with strange figures clad entirely in moss parading through the streets.
