A site of great geological value
This site opened in the year 2003 and has an area of 100 hectares. It is situated in Cardona Saline Valley, which used to be known as El Salí. The Mountain of Salt is highly valuable as it contains many different minerals.
For years, Montaña de Sal Cultural Park was one of the world's most important potassium salt mines, situated in the area of the Nieves Mine in Cardona. This tourist area shows how important this element is, and visitors can discover the site's particular geology and how it has been used over the years.
What you need to know
The discovery of potassium salt in 1912 brought industrialisation to Cardona. The population doubled in size and there was an important urban and social transformation.
Information for visits
The park can be accessed freely, or visitors can go on one of the guided tours. Children can enjoy the dramatised visit entitled ”Project Alchemy: The Secret of Liber Salis”.
