In fact, Madrid's etymology is a fusion of an Arabic noun: "ma^ra" (meaning "underground water channel or open-air watercourse"), and a suffix of Roman origin: "etum", meaning "abundance of". The fusion would be Ma^yrit, which translates as "a place of abundance of streams of water". Discover Moorish Madrid.
