National parks in Spain ideal for enjoying with all the family

Spain has 15 national parks, protected spaces preserving the very best of Spain's natural heritage. There are spaces with something for everyone: parks with high mountain peaks, dense forests and wonderful beaches, and in some of them you can even visit a volcano. We’re now going to tell you about some of the best national parks that you can enjoy with the whole family.

    There are more than 200 ponds and lakes among the spectacular landscapes of this park. Valleys, crags, cliffs and high mountains watch over these lakes and ponds that are the perfect place for a refreshing splash if the weather's good. There are a huge variety of routes to choose from with different levels of difficulty, from easy to advanced, so there’s something that's perfect for everyone, both adults and kids alike. Make sure you take the time to look up at the sky as there are so many birds to be seen, including the bearded vulture which is one of the largest.

    The landscape in this national park is considered a part of World Heritage due to its enormous geological value. And of course you can take a walk around the volcano which has to be one of the most fantastic adventures you could possibly have with the youngest members of the family. Discover a spectacular flora and fauna as you cross this volcanic landscape with so many endemic species to spot along the way. The cable car will take you up to the top of Mount Teide, which at a height of 3,718 metres is the highest peak in the whole of Spain.

    These islands off the coast of Galicia are perfect for visiting with the kids. Here you’ll discover some of the best beaches in the world, beaches of fine white sand with turquoise waters surrounded by a stunning landscape of steep cliffs. If you're into scuba diving, this is the perfect place for you, and you'll have a great time discovering the incredible riches to be found on the seabed. There are shipwrecks to be explored in these waters and as you'd expect, there are lots of stories of pirates and hidden treasure that will be a favourite with the kids.

    Doñana National Park has been declared a World Heritage Site and is a magnificent place for a day out with the family, as on its beaches and wetlands you can spot as many as 300 different species of birds. The park is a place of passage, breeding and hibernation for so many different species of birds that you might well find yourself pointing up at the sky all day long. Furthermore, this area is home to the Iberian lynx, the marismeño horse, and the Spanish imperial eagle, all species that are in danger of extinction. Trying to spot them will take you on quite an adventure.

    A combination of the ocean, the rugged mountains and the humidity creates a perfect climate for laurel forest. This is a unique type of woodland, home to numerous native plant species, where you'll also find incredible rock formations, such as Los Roques. Moreover, the legendary lovers Gara and Jonay are said to have lived out their romance in these misty green forests. Their story is one of the most famous legends of the Canary Islands.
