Festivals in Spain in March

When March arrives, so do Las Fallas. In the Valencia Region, spring is welcomed with these spectacular but ephemeral papier-mâché monuments (Fallas) that grace the streets until the night of 19 March when they’re consumed by fire. As well as the famous Fallas de San José in Valencia, there are other hugely popular celebrations of this kind, such as the Fallas in Alzira and Sagunto. Spring in Spain is also a great opportunity to enjoy the stunning natural spectacle of the cherry trees in blossom in the Jerte Valley. The festive calendar for March also features celebrations that recreate historical events, so you can become a time traveller for a few days by letting yourself be swept back to when Columbus's ship La Pinta arrived in Baiona, or to the times of the Reconquest of the Vila de Vigo. Here you can see some of the festivals that usually take place in Spain in March:
