Castle of San Carlos

Mallorca

It is based on a square defensive tower, commissioned in 1610 by Philip III to protect the commercial boats from pirates, and situated where the old Porto Pí lighthouse used to be. Half a century later, when Philip IV was king, the construction was turned into an irregular polygon with the addition of four large bastions to the tower. During the last renovation stage, in the 19th century, the fortress was equipped with four cannons. The castle now houses the San Carlos Military History Museum, which contains Spanish Infantry armaments.
