Railway Museum. Madrid

Railway Museum (Madrid)

Madrid

It is housed in the captial's first monumental station, the historic Delicias station, which opened in 1880 and is one of the clearest examples of Spanish industrial architecture. The permanent exhibition of the Madrid Railway Museum highlights key aspects of the history of the railway system. It offers a range of themed routes related to railway traction in its three forms – steam, electric, and diesel – as well as track infrastructure and facilities, railway traffic control, the importance of timekeeping in the railway world, and the exhibit of the model display 'Railway Territory', the largest of its kind in Spain, featuring moving trains. Since its inception, the museum has aimed to bring the world of railways closer to the public. It supports research and public engagement through temporary exhibitions, educational and cultural activities, and by operating heritage trains.  One of its highlights is the Strawberry Train, a historic train that connects Madrid with Aranjuez during spring and autumn weekends.
