Housing the highest institutional body of Biscay, the Casa de Juntas in Gernika stands next to the mythical Tree, a symbol of all Basques and a meeting point for the members of the domain of Biscay since the Middle Ages. The building, in a purely neoclassical style, was built between 1826 and 1833.
