La Quinta de Segas Palace in Cudillero, Asturias

La Quinta de Selgas

Asturias

Next to the picturesque harbour of Cudillero lies La Quinta de Selgas, one of the most extraordinary heritage sites in Asturias. Known as the ‘Asturian Versailles’, this historic estate brings together art, architecture and nature in a unique setting created in the late 19th century by the brothers Ezequiel and Fortunato de Selgas. The complex consists of an elegant French-inspired palace surrounded by more than nine hectares of historic gardens in the French, Italian and English styles, which are regarded as some of the finest in Spain. The tour also offers visitors the chance to visit the School Museum, an exceptional insight into education in the late 19th century, and to explore the church and mausoleum of Jesús Nazareno, which is linked to the founding family. Added to this are significant art collections featuring works by masters such as El Greco, as well as valuable tapestries, furniture and decorative arts, which make La Quinta de Selgas a veritable open-air museum of art, history and landscape.
