Burgos

Monte Santiago Natural Monument

This lies between the provinces of Burgos (Castile-León) and Álava (Basque Country).

The landscape is dominated by a luxuriant and well-conserved beech forest which extends to the edge of a rocky amphitheatre formed by the peaks of the Sierra Salvada mountains. Particular highlights include the Salto del Nervión falls, an attractive waterfall with a height of over 300 metres and a distinctive horsetail shape. The remains of a prehistoric wolves’ cave can be seen beside the waterfall, as well as the spectacular flight of numerous birds of prey which nest in the Nervión canyon.
