Views of Las Virtudes and the square bullring in Santa Cruz de Mudela

Santa Cruz de Mudela

Ciudad Real

This is a frequented town thanks to its spas, although its craft workshops that deal with handmade knives and blades are also quite famous.

Its monumental heritage includes the remarkable the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, a Gothic temple from the 16th century, with some Renaissance elements as well; the Neo-Gothic church of San José, and the convent of the Conceptionists. Six kilometres away from Santa Cruz de Mudela we find the sanctuary of Virtudes, which consists of a hermitage, and a bullring. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1981. The hermitage dates from the 14th century, with a 15-century roof and Baroque ornamentation on the side-chapel and the high chapel. The bullring, with a square floor-plan, dates from 1645; its high gallery is lined with a balustrade and wooden shoes, and has stone columns on the side that faces the hermitage.
