Prades is a village with ancient history. Remains from the Neolithic period and Iberian ruins have been found, although today's village dates from the Moorish period.
It has a range of interesting monuments, such as: the Gothic church of Santa María la Major, with its Renaissance façade; the castle and medieval defensive walls, which could date back to the Moorish period; a spherical Renaissance fountain; Plaça Major Square; Mare de Déu de la Abellera Shrine; springs; caves; viewpoints like the one at La Baltasana, over 1,000 metres above sea level. In Prades there are also activities such as hiking, mountain biking and climbing. Outstanding local produce includes potatoes with designation of origin, hazelnuts, honey and cured meats, along with dishes such as la escudella, la carn d'olla (hearty casseroles), and stewed boar.
