The municipality is located on the foothill of Sierra Nevada, and in front of Sierra Gádor, in Alpujarra de Almería. The magnificent natural setting makes it the ideal place for rural tourism.
In the historic quarter we must point out the church of Encarnación, from the 17th century, known as the Cathedral of Alpujarra. This Mudejar building, with a Baroque finish, is fairly large, and is very well kept. It was built on the foundations of a mosque. Its interior keeps an image of the Inmaculada from the workshop of Alonso Cano, and several Flemish paintings. Also remarkable are the numerous fountains that we see there, such as Cuatro Caños, San Blas, and Pilar de San Antonio.
