Cherry trees in bloom in the Jerte valley in Cáceres (Extremadura)

Jerte

Cáceres

The end of March is the best time to visit, when the cherry trees are in flower

Jerte is 36 kilometres from the town of Plasencia. It is in the Jerte Valley, an area of countryside where cherry trees abound. In springtime these trees come into flower - a stunning display that attracts crowds of visitors. A sight well worth seeing. The Cherry in Flower fiesta is also held at this time, whose programme includes exhibitions, tasting sessions of typical produce, open air dances and concerts by folk groups. It is usually held in the second fortnight of March, although flowering dates vary from year to year. If you decide to come, you should get information about the exact dates and reserve accommodation in advance.
