Arroyo de la Luz

Pottery is a traditional craft in Arroyo de la Luz, its cooking pots being quite famous throughout the region.

Arroyo de la Luz's monumental heritage is mainly ecclesiastical. The church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, declared to be of artistic interest, was finished in the 16th century, and has an interesting 1560 reredos with twenty panels by painter Luis de Morales. The convent of San Francisco was founded in 1570 by the Order of the Discalced Franciscans. And in the midst of the pastureland, a beautiful plain filled with holm oaks, we find the hermitage of Ntra Sra de la Luz, patron saint of the town. The Horse Race deserves special attention, since it is a festivity that was declared to be of Regional Tourist Interest, celebrated on the first Monday following Holly Week. In the municipality we find the pools of Petit, and the reservoir of Molano, natural places with a remarkable and diverse bird life.
