One of the most notable is the Water Festival. Thousands of people of all ages run through the streets in the centre of Vilagarcía shouting “Water!” while their neighbours and firefighters soak them with water. This fun event, with music from brass bands and general revelry, is attended by 20,000 to 30,000 people.

The fiestas also include free concerts, folk music and dance, a parade of floats, a flower fight, and more. The grand finale of the celebrations is the Naval Battle, which attracts thousands of visitors. This is a mock battle between a ship and a castle made of fireworks off the quay of Muelle de Pasajeros. This show is rounded off with a spectacular fireworks display, including aquatic fireworks.
