The Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, a cultural landmark in the Catalan capital, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with an exhibition featuring a selection from its collection. Artists associated with the centre, including but not limited to Jean-Michel Basquiat, Joan Ponç, El Palomar, Esther Ferrer and Rineke Dijkstra are present through their works.
The exhibition draws surprising, even poetic, connections between its different pieces, which can be traced to different periods of the museum's existence and in which the cultural landscape has gradually changed, influenced by phenomena such as political resistance, migration or new ways of interaction. However, what they all have in common is that they consistently defy prejudices and the mainstream and engage in dialogue with one another despite not having been conceived for this purpose.
