The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents a new installation by the artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen, created specifically for the museum, which, through the song 'Wild is the Wind' in the unmistakable voices of Nina Simone and David Bowie, offers a moving experience through time and space.
The song 'Wild is the Wind', with its complex blend of love, elegy and nostalgia, has featured in the British artist's work for more than three decades. On this occasion, Steve McQueen combines Nina Simone's 1966 performance and David Bowie's 1976 version, both a cappella, in a darkened room, letting us experience the music from a new perspective. The first voice emerges from one side of the room, and Bowie's responds from the opposite end; as visitors move through the gallery, they engage in a dialogue through the architecture. The title of the work, 66-76-26, refers to the years when Simone and Bowie recorded their respective versions and to the year this exhibition was created, which celebrates the coming together of their voices and bridges the gap in time between them.
