The exhibition at Caixaforum Barcelona explores the trajectory, evolution and influence that Henri Matisse's work had on the international avant-garde and contemporary artists.
Matisse's art, with its break with established norms and its search for new ways of representing reality, has given rise to a prominent dialogue around his figure during the 20th and 21st centuries. The exhibition, divided into eight sections, examines the scope of his legacy, from its beginnings, marked by Fauvism and Russian Neo-Primitivism, to its impact on American painting in the 1940s.To this end, a wide selection of his paintings, drawings, gouaches and collages have arrived in Barcelona, most of them from the Centre Pompidou in Paris. At the same time, workshops, lectures and guided tours are organised, offering a broader vision of the creative universe of this universal Frenchman.
