Easter Week in Tobarra
Festivity of National Tourist InterestTobarra
Easter week in Tobarra, province of Albacete, is characterised by the ceaseless beating of drums. They start on Easter Wednesday and do not stop until Easter Sunday.
These drum rolls can be heard in the village for 104 hours, not only during the processions, but all day long. The most sublime moment of the Tobarra celebrations comes on Good Friday, with a blessing given by a moving statue of the crucified Christ to thousands of people. This is the moment when the drums stop beating. Following this, the “Mektub” can be heard, an intense, funereal piece played in accompaniment to this important act of Easter week in Tobarra.
