Church of Santa Catalina Guided Tour

Special visit, where you will discover spaces normally closed to the general public: The spectacular crypt with the remains of three different civilizations, the Sacramental Chapel, and you can climb its bell tower. After spending 14 years closed for works, the church of Santa Catalina in Seville reopened its doors to the public. Since it closed on June 3, 2004, many Sevillians have forgotten what the inside of the temple looked like or do not even know it.Discover with us one of the primitive parishes of the city of Seville, and due to its mixture of architectural styles, it becomes one of the most original temples in the city. Built on an old Mosque, it is originally from the 13th century and rebuilt after an earthquake in the 14th. The Gothic-Mudejar style is the predominant style, although Leonardo de Figueroa built his spectacular Sacramental Chapel (defined by Manuel Jesús Roldán as “one of the most spectacular microarchitectures in the city”) in the middle of the baroque. In addition, the regionalist architect Juan Talavera y Heredia carried out a deep restoration in the parish at the beginning of the 20th century. From the outside we can see the differences between the ocher-colored walls and those of exposed brick, which show the different construction stages of this unique parish. Once inside, we can enjoy an authentic museum of paintings and sculptures. Inside the temple houses part of the best of Baroque art in Seville with paintings and sculptures by Luisa Roldán, Pedro Duque Cornejo, Domingo Martínez ...Thanks to our Guided tour you will be able to know this jewel that in recent years has been closed because of the last reform, completed in 2018.
