La España Industrial Park

Barcelona

This new park was built in the middle of the last century on the former site of a major textiles company, covering an area of 50,000 m2. It was the result of a competition won by the architects Luis Peña Ganchegui and Francesc Ruis who named it "Termes del dragón de San Jorge", in honour of the patron saint of Catalonia. The main entrance is on Calle Muntadas street. The original wall and fencing remain to this day all along the street, providing views of El Mig House, play parks and a broad promenade shaded from the sun by more than 150 old banana trees. Beyond the promenade is a large meadow decorated with wonderful sculptures: “Lande V” by Pedro Palazuelo – strict, rationalist and highly sober; Alto Rhapsody by British artist Sir Anthony Caro, that the local council had had in storage since the 1970s, etc.
