Nestled in the heart of the Costa Brava, in the Baix Empordà, the village of Peratallada is one of the finest examples of medieval architecture in the Empordà region.
The castle-fortress, with its tower, palace and walls in an enviable state of preservation, is Peratallada’s finest stronghold. This complex, including the two fortified walls that no longer exist, made this town one of the best-protected in Catalonia during the Middle Ages.Outside the walls, the Romanesque church of Sant Esteve is particularly noteworthy. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, its main façade is particularly striking, with its freestanding arches and an appearance more reminiscent of a secular building than a religious one.
