Commemoration - Festivity of National Tourist Interest

Monzón

Huesca

Medieval market and processions, tournaments, theatre, “pasacalles” parades, and much more. The historical heritage of Monzón (Huesca) is the perfect setting to remember every May of the year the stay in the municipality of King James I of Aragon when he was a child and was educated by the Templar Knights.

Although this historical re-enactment event takes place on the fourth weekend of May, activities related to the celebration take place beforehand throughout the month. The different festive events programmed take place all over the town, taking the atmosphere of its streets back to medieval times.Monzón Castle, of Arab origin and which passed into the hands of the Templar Knights in the 12th century, plays a prominent role, as theatrical tours are organised, as well as medieval dance and music shows. Outside, some of the theatrical scenes that recall the childhood stay of James I, who was to become one of the most important kings of the Crown of Aragon, are also represented, highlighting his education by the Templar master Guillem de Mont-rodón between 1214 and 1217.The festival can be enjoyed throughout the weekend with a programme of activities that includes, in addition to the medieval market to enjoy typical food, drink and craftwork, other outstanding activities, such as “pasacalles” parades, tournaments, exhibitions, concerts, dances and workshops for all ages.
