Exhibition: Victoria Eugenie

Exhibition
Madrid

The exhibition pays tribute to Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, granddaughter of Queen Victoria of England, who became Queen of Spain after her marriage to Alfonso XIII in 1906.Spanning over 1,000 square meters and featuring around 350 pieces, the exhibition delves into Victoria Eugenie's life and her contributions to Spanish society up to her exile in 1931. It traces her childhood and her role as wife and mother, and analyses aspects such as her transformative work at court, her intense public activity, and her support for charitable causes.Throughout the exhibition, visitors will find documents, photographs, clothing, and personal items such as postcards, brooches, and books. Among other objects on display are the carriage in which the couple travelled to the Church of San Jerónimo on their wedding day, and some of the valuable wedding gifts given to her by Alfonso XIII, such as the diamond Fleur-de-Lis tiara and the royal mantle that belonged to Isabella II. Visitors can also see portraits of the queen painted by great artists of the time, such as Joaquín Sorolla, Ignacio Zuloaga, and Mariano Benlliure.
