The exhibition presents an intergenerational dialogue between Joan Miró and American artists, showing how their creative practices enriched each other and contributed to the development of 20th-century art.
“Miró and the United States” focuses on a period from 1941 to 1968, during which two Miró retrospectives were held in New York and the Spanish artist made seven visits to the United States. A selection of 160 works, including creations by artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Helen Frankenthaler, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, among many others, shows the artistic dialogue through which Miró interacted with his American colleagues. In addition to revisiting Miró's legacy, the exhibition highlights the relevance of many of the women artists who were essential in the redefinition of contemporary art, whether as protagonists of innovative currents or as points of reference for other artists.
