Don Juan in Alcalá

The largest theatrical production staged in the World Heritage City of Alcalá de Henares is based on the famous play by José Zorrilla, “Don Juan Tenorio”.

Alcalá de Henares has been hosting this event since 1984. The central figure in the play is Don Juan, the universal personification of the seducer. The staging takes place in the historic city centre, in the open area known as Huerta del Palacio Arzobispal, where thousands of people come every year to see the various production and directing styles of the chosen theatre company. In fact, Halloween or the eve of All Saints, 31 October, is known in the city as Don Juan Night, with many different events held in its streets. This makes it a very special time to visit the city, where you can also see its Plaza Mayor, University, Calle Mayor, and the Cervantes House Museum.
