On the Caldera RidgeA taxi brings us from sea level up to Pico de La Nieve at 2239 m with a fantastic view. Downwards toward Fuencaliente's LighthouseDuring the tour we cross the lava landscapes of San Antonio and the Teneguía volcano, which erupted in 1971. Into the National ParkToday we start our two-day tour into the heart of the island, the Caldera de Taburiente. With our luggage we walk downhill to the campsite near the Taburiente river, where the tents are pitched between trees. The Caldera in depthAfter packing the tents, we hike into the neighbouring gorge, from where it is worth making a detour to the Cascada de Colores. On the Volcanoes RouteThe GR 131 long-distance trail follows the Cumbre Vieja volcanic range, which divides the island into eastern and western parts, to Fuencaliente.
