AÍN - LA MOSQUERA - AÍN: The wildest Sierra de Espadán Natur

Aín, a beautiful Muslim-origin town whose Arabic name means "place of water springs", will be the beginning of one of the most spectacular routes throughout Castellón’s geography. From here, after having crossed the village, we’ll go straight through Caritat’s ravine, full of riparian vegetation, and we’ll soon abandon it to ascend through the Juncaret’s ravine, an authentic botanical jewel of the Natural Park that will begin to remember us where we are: a real jungle which houses one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. From the hill of Peñas Blancas we’ll initiate the descent across a wild cork-tree forest to Masía Mosquera’s farmhouse, surrounded by a landscape that cannot be described in words. After having lunch and revealing the secrets of the ancient cork industry, we will continue walking on the track that runs through this landscape until the intersection with the Ain-Almedíjar road, which will lead us to Almanzor’s ravine. We will then slowly ascend along it, being impressed by the lush foliage created by enormous ferns and cork-trees up to Ibola’s pass, from where the vertiginous descent back to Aín will start.Meeting point: AínApprox. duration: 6 hDifficulty: Moderate-highRecomm. age: Children from 12Distance: 14,5 km
